Richard Zan Ridenour, 73, of Hagerstown, died on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Born Sept. 21, 1938, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Richard A. and Pearl Eileen (Weaver) Ridenour and his birth mother, Evelyn Louise (Golladay) Ridenour Davis.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
He had worked in the sales and service department at Shank Surge in Hagerstown, and previously was a plumber with Fridinger and Ritchie, also in Hagerstown.
Richard was a member of the Hagerstown Bible Church as well as the North American Rod and Gun Club.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Norma J. (Carbaugh) Ridenour.
Surviving him is a daughter, Tanya Ridenour-ten Hoope and husband, Henk, of Hagerstown; two sisters, Diane E. McDaid of Hagerstown, Linda C. Mikus of Keedysville; his faithful kitty companions, Munchkin, Furfull, Foxy and Wooly Bear; grand kitties, Mika, Lexi, Reeses Pieces, Lucky, Moonlight and Tweety, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, stepmother and wife, Richard was also preceded in death by two brothers, George T. Witmer and Ronald E. Witmer.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at the Hagerstown Bible Church, Hagerstown, with his cousin, the Elder Jack Hill officiating.
