McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. — Six people were injured Sunday afternoon when a car crashed into the side of an SUV on Cito Road near McConnellsburg, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.
Police said two people had major injuries: Sarah Ellen Sowers, 74, of McConnellsburg, and a 16-year-old boy whose name was not released.
Sowers was listed in fair condition Monday morning at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, Pa., a hospital spokeswoman said.
The crash happened at about 3 p.m. at the intersection of Cito Road and Texas Eastern Drive, police said. A 2000 Toyota Celica was headed north on Cito Road as a 2006 Ford Explorer was turning left onto Texas Eastern Drive from southbound Cito Road, police said. As the Toyota went around a curve and crested a hill, the driver noticed the Ford turning left in front of him and hit his brakes, but was unable to get stopped before striking the side of the Ford, police said.
The Toyota was driven by a 17-year old boy from McConnellsburg, whose name was not released. The teenage driver and a 17-year-old passenger had minor injuries, while a third passenger, the 16-year-old, had major injuries, police said.
The Ford was driven by Jimmie Chesnut, 72, of McConnellsburg, and had two passengers, Sowers and Gayle Chesnut, 72, also of McConnellsburg. The Chesnuts both had minor injuries, police said.
Both vehicles had major damage, police said.
