Historical society meeting
The Middleburg/Mason-Dixon Line Historical Society meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. at the State Line Ruritan Building in the State Line Community Park off U.S. 11.
Bob O’Connor, local author, will discuss his book, “Ward Hill Lamon, Lincoln’s Personal Bodyguard.” Lamon was Lincoln’s law partner, and later became the president’s personal bodyguard. O’Connor will portray Lamon, and share his story of the fateful evening Lincoln attended Ford’s Theater. Refreshments will be served.

Ruritan Club planning all-you-can-eat breakfast
Maugansville Ruritan Club will hold a pancake breakfast Saturday, Oct. 22, at its blue building on Maugans Avenue. Breakfast will be served from 6:30 to 11 a.m. Tickets cost $5.50 for adults, $3 for those ages 6 to 12 and are free for those younger than 6.
The menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, sausage gravy, juice, coffee and tea.

Church plans kids’ fest
Salem Reformed Church is sponsoring a kids’ fest and trunk or treat Saturday, Oct. 22, at 4 p.m. There will be games, a moon bounce, horse rides and food.
Starting at 6 p.m., anyone wanting to dress in a nonscary costume will have the opportunity to do so and the trunks or trucks that want to take part in the decoration competition will get ready for the evening contest. The church is at 13182 Salem Church Road off of Cearfoss Pike in Hagerstown.

Maugansville trick or treat night
The Maugansville area will hold trick or treat night Friday, Oct. 28, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Members of the Maugansville Ruritan Club will patrol the streets and hand out free glow-in-the-dark bracelets. Please have your porch lights on to participate and please drive slowly through the area that night.

Tenth annual dinner and auction
The Sun Rises Over Rotary Dinner and Auction will be held Sunday, Oct. 30, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Elks Lodge 378 on Robinwood Drive.
This is a charity auction and costume party, but casual attire is welcomed, too. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club, Children’s Village and the Sunrise Rotary Foundation.
Tickets cost $35. Tickets are available from any Sunrise Rotarian, the Boys & Girls Club and Children’s Village.

Flu vaccination clinic
The Washington County Health Department will conduct a flu vaccination clinic for adults Friday, Oct. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1302 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown. This is a walk-in clinic, and no appointment is necessary. Medicare is accepted. No other insurance will be billed. A donation of $20 is appreciated. Forms are available at www.washhealth.org.
