CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A 55-year-old man crossing U.S. 30 in downtown Chambersburg early Thursday was hit by a minivan and killed, according to news releases from Chambersburg police and the Franklin County (Pa.) Coroner’s Office.
William C. McMichael, of Chambersburg, died of multiple blunt force trauma, Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said.
The accident was reported at 12:53 a.m. at Lincoln Way West (U.S. 30) and Hood Street, police said.
Conner said a westbound vehicle hit McMichael in a crosswalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:38 a.m.
The Chambersburg Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the accident, police said.
Officer Ian Armstrong said the minivan driver’s name would not be released until the accident team had more time for its investigation.
McMichael’s death was the third pedestrian fatality in the Tri-State area since Tuesday.
The other two deaths occurred in Jefferson County, W.Va., including one man who was hit by a moving train and killed.
Another man was hit by a box truck on Tuesday along U.S. 340 in Charles Town, W.Va.
