One person injured in van accident on Greencastle Pike

One person was injured Thursday morning when a Honda Odyssey van hit a utility pole across from 14544 Greencastle Pike (Md. 63) in northern Washington County, Maryland State Police Trooper Doug Bittinger said.

Bittinger said he was still investigating the cause of the accident as of 9:20 a.m. Thursday.

The driver of the van was taken to Meritus Medical Center, Bittinger said. There was no one else in the van, he said.

The van was damaged on the passenger side. No damage was done to the utility pole.

Police responded to the accident at 8:32 a.m. Thursday and closed the 14500 block of Greencastle Pike upon arriving at the scene.

The road reopened when police cleared the scene after the van was towed away at 9:21 a.m. Thursday.

In addition to state police, a firetruck from the Maugansville Volunteer Fire Co. an ambulance from Hagerstown Community Rescue Service and a rescue squad vehicle from the Greencastle (Pa.) Rescue Hose Co. were also on the scene. The Washington County Sheriff's Office assisted state police at the scene, Bittinger said.
