MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — West Virginia University Hospitals-East officials recently announced that Dr. Sheila Ramirez, endocrinologist, opened a practice in the Eastern Panhandle.
Ramirez recently completed a fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and nutrition at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore. Prior to that, she was in New York completing her internal medicine residency at Jacobi Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Ramirez earned her medical degree at Instituto Tecnologico De Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
In her new practice, Ramirez will diagnose and provide treatment for patients with diabetes, hormonal disorders and nutritional problems. She is on the medical staff at City Hospital and will be providing consulting services to patients at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.
Ramirez is accepting new patients at her Martinsburg office, located in Suite 3100 in the McCormack Center on the City Hospital campus.

Laser Vein Center for Excellence
Jeffrey Ware, surgical assistant with the Laser Vein Center for Excellence, recently successfully completed a medical training course in advanced sclerotherapy techniques and laser protocol presented by Empire Medical Training Inc.
With this advanced training, Ware can provide advanced techniques for sclerotherapy treatment for varicose veins and spider veins.
With more than 35 years of surgical assisting experience, Ware has been practicing with Dr. Anhtai H. Nguyen, director and founder, since the conception of the vein center in 2001.
Steve Talmadge, customer service engineer, was named employee of the month for August at Volvo Powertrain Hagerstown.
He was nominated by two of his colleagues for his commitment to ensuring that customers are satisfied with the EPA 2010 engine product and for encouraging those around him to go the extra mile.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Scott Palmer and Todd Crawford with Jack Gaughen Realtor ERA were recognized as agents of the month for August in the Greencastle office.
The award is given based on the number of listings taken, sales made and closed sales, as well as attendance at Realtor functions and continuing-education classes completed.
Palmer was recognized for the five years and over in the business category. Crawford was recognized for the five years and under in the business category.
Palmer has been selling real estate for 25 years and is an associate broker. He resides in Greencastle with his wife, Dawn, and daughter.
Crawford has more than 20 years of business and sales experience. He is licensed to sell all types of real estate in Pennsylvania.
