Gary Wayne Melton, 51, of Ware Shoals, S.C., and formerly of Leitersburg, Md., passed away on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011, at Hospice House in Greenwood, S.C., after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada, on Dec. 20, 1959, he was the son of Bruce Melton and Pierrette L'Italien Melton of Leitersburg.
Surviving him are his wife, Etta Melton and two daughters, Alexa and Larissa; his sister, Jocelyne Melton of Waynesboro, Pa.; and his brother, Mark Melton of Mercersburg, Pa.
Gary was preceded in death by a baby daughter, Amber Marie, and two baby sons, Paul and Chris.
Gary loved Scouting and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He served in the Army for 14 years and earned the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. He was stationed in Texas, Germany, Egypt and Kentucky. Before his battle with cancer, Gary was a truck driver for many years.
He was a very good father and husband, and loved spending time with his family, taking them fishing and teaching his girls the love of art and poetry. He loved painting and had a book of inspiring poems published in 2002, "Prophecy, Revelation and Praise." He also loved to pick at his guitar and encouraged his girls to play, write, draw and excel in school.

A memorial Mass will be said in the near future at St. Ann Catholic Church in Hagerstown in the chapel. Services will be at the convenience of the family in Ware Shoals, S.C.
Gary will be very much missed by his family.
