John Albert Ditmer, 94, of Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at Julia Manor Nursing Home.
Born July 17, 1917, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry Monroe and Fanny Socks Ditmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Frances Ditmer.
He retired from Fairchild Aircraft after 43 years of service.
He was a lifelong member of Christ's Reformed Church United Church of Christ.
He was a lifelong member of Western Maryland Sportsman's Club.
He loved to hunt, fish and golf, and loved to be with his family.
He is survived by two sons, Lawrence Albert Ditmer and wife, Mary Lou, of Hagerstown, and Dennis John Ditmer and wife, Lynn, of State College, Pa.; two sisters, Helen Worthington and Betty Crist, both of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Amanda Ditmer Burns and husband, Michael, of Stafford, Va., and Kim Ditmer Hagstad and husband, Aaron, of Baltimore, Md.; and two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Hagstad and Lauren Kellie Hagstad, both of Baltimore.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Wantz.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Gregg R. Meserole will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
