Hayes "Buck" DeHaven, 83, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at Julia Manor Healthcare of Hagerstown.
Born Oct. 13, 1927, in Virginia, he was the son of the late Hayes E. and Mamie DeHaven.
He served as a paratrooper in a U.S Army Airborne unit.
He had a lengthy career at Singer Sewing Machine Co. and sold insurance for several years. After working for someone else, he decided to become self-employed as an auto salesman and mechanic. He specialized in Volkswagens and was known as the "Bug Man."
He was an avid reader and history buff.
He is survived by a son, Bradley DeHaven of Hagerstown; three daughters, Shelley Young of North Carolina, Kathy Mertz of Hagerstown and Lisa Faith of Williamsport; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Virginia Good; and a brother, Holmes DeHaven.
There was a private service and burial.
Arrangements were by J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.
