1. Buttering up for some apple butter

Apple Butter Festival will be from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, in downtown Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Parade with the theme of Heroes and Winners kicks off the festivities at 9 a.m. Saturday followed by two days of family-friendly games and contests, music, food, fine arts and local crafts. 2. Uncovering a spy's story

3. It's time to take stock

Winestock 2011 will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, and 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9., at Knob Hill Winery, 14108 St. Paul Road, Clear Spring. A weekend of music and wine. Saturday's music includes Blue Transfer Band, Adam Taylor and Backroads Blues Band; on Sunday, Oct. 9, it's Skweez Play, The Rogues and Mama Jama. 4. Stuffing scarecrows
