Blazers top Gaels in volleyball battle

Alexa Mills had 20 digs to lead Clear Spring in a 25-13, 25-15, 25-14 sweep of St. Maria Goretti on Friday night.

Sarah Blickenstaff had 15 digs, Sarah Elwood had 14 assists, Kristen Mellott had eight kills and Morgan Purdham added six kills for the Blazers (2-5).

Abbey Eich had 18 digs, three kills and two blocks, while Erin Sempowski added eight digs and two aces for the Gaels (6-5).

JV: Clear Spring, 2-0.

North Hagerstown 3, Oakdale 0

Autumn Fisher and Peyton Wallech each had 10 kills in the Hubs’ 25-23, 25-8, 25-17 sweep of Oakdale.

Brynne Kirsch dished out 34 assists for North (5-2).

Shalom Christian 3, Grace Academy 0

Natasha Gibble had nine kills, nine assists, 13 digs and three aces to lead Shalom to a 25-13, 25-7, 25-17 sweep of Grace Academy (2-6, 2-5) in the Mason Dixon Christian Conference on Thursday.

Ashlyn Blank had seven kills and 14 digs for the Flames (10-2, 8-2). Tori Yoder had five kills and Karlee Wise added four kills. Kristen Blank had six assists, Kasey Ebersole had five assists and Brooke Poe added nine digs and four aces.

Washington 3, Berkeley Springs 0

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Berkeley Springs fell to 4-4 with a 25-8, 25-8, 25-20 loss to Washington on Thursday.

Erin Close had eight digs and Allexa Branham added three kills for the Indians.

IJAMSVILLE, Md. — Crosby Winters completed 5 of 14 passes for 69 yards, including a 43-yard touchdown pass to Jay Molnar, in Oakdale’s loss to Middletown.

Nick Sponyoe had eight carries for 41 yards for the Bears (0-5).

ST. JAMES — Theresa Barton and Annie Cochran scored for St. Maria Goretti in its victory over Saint James.

Bekah Everetts and Alexis Barone added an assist each, while Lauree Lorensen made 17 saves for the Gaels (2-8-1).

Mary-Kate Afzali scored the lone goal for the Saints (2-2), assisted by Leanne Ludwick. Nicole Jenkinson made 12 saves.


Winters Mill 3, Smithsburg 2

SMITHSBURG — Adler Garrett had two goals for Smithsburg in a loss to Winters Mill.

Clayton Layman and Kevin Gibson each had an assist, and Gibson and Nick Porter combined for 16 saves for the Leopards (2-5).

St. Andrew’s 3, Saint James 0

POTOMAC, Md. — Zuojun Gong made five saves and Alex Wagner made four saves for the Saints (0-9) in a Mid-Atlantic Conference loss.

New Life 2, Grace Academy 2

FREDERICK, Md. — Peter Hykes and Jeremiah House both scored for Grace Academy in a draw with New Life in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference game.

E.J. Boutieller had an assist and Daniel Frederickson made 10 saves for the Knights (1-8-1).

Southern Fulton 4, CVCS 1

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. — Josh Hill and Chase Horton scored two goals each for Southern Fulton in a win over Cumberland Valley Christian.

Matt Garland and Taylor Bohrer each had an assist and Courtney Strait made 11 saves for the Indians (3-5).

Daniel Pool had a goal and Tanner Propst made 13 saves for CVCS (1-11).

Williamsport 2, Boonsboro 1

BOONSBORO — Colton Myers scored in the 78th minute to lift the Wildcats past the Warriors in an MVAL Antietam game Thursday.

Austin Hager-Perry scored his first varsity goal for Williamsport (7-1-1, 3-0-1). Cody Gardenhour assisted on both goals, and Alex Aleshire made five saves.

Brandon Redman scored for Boonsboro (2-4, 1-2).

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Stefan Kempe (19:13), Kevin Duda (19:43) and Alex Kelly (20:21) competed for Mercersburg Academy at the 38th Annual Paul Short Run.

Zack Morgan scored an unnassisted goal for Hagerstown in a Maryland JuCo draw with Essex.

Kenny Frederickson made 20 saves for the Hawks (2-3-1, 2-3-1).


HCC 3, Allegany 0

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Emma Stahl had 12 kills and 15 digs, and Courtney Silvis added nine kills, 13 digs and two blocks to lead Hagerstown Community College to a 25-17, 25-14, 25-11 sweep of Allegany College.

Brittany Skrutski had six kills and six blocks, and Paige Kitchen added 32 assists and two blocks for the Hawks (10-6).

Shepherd 3, Bluefield State 0

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. — Taylor Belella had 25 assists, five aces and seven digs to lead Shepherd University to a 25-8, 25-19, 25-6 West Virginia Conference sweep of  Bluefield State (0-11, 0-4).

Kasey Mercier had eight kills and six digs, and Kayla Motheral added 12 kills for the Rams (8-6, 2-2).
