Dottie Mae Sterling, 89, formerly of Cedar Ridge Road in Williamsport, Md., died peacefully Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, at Williamsport Nursing Home, surrounded by her caregivers.

Born Jan. 30, 1922, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Roman and Mary Naomi Salsgiver Taylor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson L. Sterling.

She was a member of Christ's Reformed Church United Church of Christ, and the Friendly Bible Class. She served on the social committee.

She volunteered at the food bank at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Dottie loved children, and was a frequent baby sitter for many children in her neighborhood. Some of her favorite activities were reading, sewing and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by one daughter, Elaine Lohman and husband, Oscar, of Clear Spring, Md.; one son, Daniel Sterling of Clear Spring; two brothers, Dale Taylor of Hagerstown and Zane Taylor of Williamsport; seven grandchildren, Melissa Lohman, Melinda Lohman-Hinz, Danny Taylor Sterling, Lexi Sterling, Crystal Davis, Dee Sterling and Nikki Sterling; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Nelson E. Sterling, in 2006; three sisters; and three brothers.

The family extends a very special appreciation to the staff, nurses, aides and medicine aides at Williamsport Nursing Home for the loving care they provided.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Gregg R. Meserole will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

There will be no viewing.
