Downtown streets closing for 'Thunder in the Square' event

HAGERSTOWN — Some streets in the area the public square in downtown Hagerstown were to be closed to traffic late Friday afternoon and evening due to the "Thunder in the Square" car show, according to a traffic advisory from the city.

West Washington Street between Summit Avenue and Potomac Street and South Potomac Street between Washington Street and Antietam Street were scheduled to close to traffic at 4:30 p.m., according to the advisory.

North Potomac Street between the North Potomac Street parking deck and Washington Street was scheduled to close to traffic at 5 p.m.

The event, hosted by the Alsatia Club, features antique and customized automobiles, motorcycles and tractors on display on Washington Street and Potomac Street between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The event was being held in conjunction with a special Wind Down Friday event at The Maryland Theatre.

Detours were t be set up to direct traffic around the event.

Motorists could still access the North Potomac Street parking deck.
