HAGERSTOWN — The westbound lane of East Antietam Street between Cramer Alley and South Potomac Street is closed as the Hagerstown Department of Public Works is replacing the sidewalk in that area, according to Eric Deike, manager for the department.

The sidewalk needs to be replaced because roots from a tree that was on the sidewalk began growing through the concrete, causing damage, Deike said Thursday.

Work on the sidewalk began Tuesday. Deike said he hopes it will reopen Friday afternoon, but it should not be closed past Monday.
