MAUGANSVILLE — Village Mill Drive in Maugansville has reopened approximately 100 feet north of Maugansville Road, directly opposite from Edith Avenue.

The road closed Wednesday, Sept. 14 after part of it collapsed due to a joint connecting drainage pipes breaking, said Rob Slocum, deputy director of public works for Washington County.

The break caused materials supporting the roadway to flow down the pipe, making the road unstable.

Workers for Washington County then began to put a temporary replacement joint and a temporary short pipe in place.

Paving also had to be done to the road because the break created what looked like a minor sinkhole.

After the temporary replacement was put in place, Slocum said county officials would put together a set of plans and start the bidding for a contractor to do permanent fixes on some of the pipes in the area.
