Hopewell Road under the Interstate 70 bridge between Halfway Boulevard and Williamsport will be closed for at last two months while the road surface is being lowered, a contractor said Wednesday.

The work is part of a project to widen the I-70 bridges and the Interstate 81 ramps at Exit 5 (Halfway Boulevard), Abilio Machado, superintendent for Pessoa Construction Co., said.

Work at Hopewell Road began Monday. The pavement is already gone in the area where the road is being lowered.

Pessoa Construction was contracted by the Maryland State Highway Administration to work on the project.

The overall project is scheduled to be completed in October 2012, he said.
