Show Kids excel at marching event

Several local members of Washington County Show Kids competed over the weekend at the Capital Area Marching Association’s three-part competition at the ARCC at Hagerstown Community College.

Haley Jo Shelton of Boonsboro brought home the title of Miss CAMA Preteen Novice for the 10-12 age division. Haley Jo is a sixth-grader at Boonsboro Middle School. To win the overall title, she placed first in modeling, second in basic strut and fourth in parade majorette baton solo.  

Lexi Hoffman, also of Boonsboro, was second runner-up for Miss CAMA, with an eighth-place finish in modeling, tying for first in parade majorette, and placing third in basic strut.


Fundraiser planned

Friends of Reeders, an independent group that works to raise money to assist residents in need, will hold a fundraising day Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the main entrance at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

The event will include a yard sale, homemade food and baked goods, and the raffle of two baskets. The value of the baskets is more than $300. Tickets can be purchased for $1 each or six for $5. The baskets are on display at Reeders.

Yard sale planned

Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Rohrersville will hold a yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

Country ham sandwiches, homemade soups and baked goods will be sold.  

The event will be held indoors at Friendship Hall at the intersection of Md. 67 and Locust Grove Road.

Furniture, children’s clothing, toys and other items will be available.

Proceeds will go to the Mount Zion Needy Family Fund.



Rug hooking

Hearts and Hands rug hooking group will meet at the Boonsboro Library Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the Community Room. All interested crafters are welcome.



Class of 1963

The BHS Class of 1963 will hold a picnic Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. at Shafer Park in Boonsboro.

All members of the class and their friends are invited to bring something to share and come for a visit.

Benefit ride

The second annual Motorcycle Benefit Ride for the Warehouse will be Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.  

Proceeds from the ride benefit Praise, a food pantry and ministry.

The ride will begin at the Boonsboro Bible Church parking lot on south Main Street in Boonsboro.  

The route will travel through the Catoctin Mountains, stopping at High Rock and some covered bridges, before ending at the warehouse in Greencastle, Pa.

The ride costs $25 per driver, which covers food, door prizes and a T-shirt.

The cost for riders is $10.
