FUNKSTOWN — South Edgewood Drive was blocked off Monday from the intersection with East Baltimore Street in Funkstown due to a sewer main break, said Brenda Haynes, Funkstown’s clerk and treasurer.

“A maintenance worker from one of the pumping stations found the break last night,” she said. “Workers came out at 6 p.m. yesterday.”

The sewer main was carrying sewage to a treatment plant, but no sewage got on the road, Haynes said.

Work crews from Henson and Son worked to repair the sewer main Monday, Haynes said. The street was excavated so the main could be repaired.

Haynes said motorists going through Funkstown were able to go around the roadblock by using Stouffer Avenue.
“(Henson and Son workers) are working as quickly as they can,” Haynes said Monday. “We do not know what caused the break.”

The line was repaired and South Edgewood Drive was reopened around 1 p.m., Mayor Paul N. Crampton Jr. said.
