No one injured when Ford Bronco hits utility pole

LEITERSBURG — A Ford Bronco hit a utility pole in the 21700 block of Leitersburg Smithsburg Road on Monday afternoon, Deputy 1st Class Kemmerer of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

There were no injuries, in the crash, which was reported at 12:59 p.m.

The utility pole was nearly snapped in two, and the 21700 block of Leitersburg Smithsburg Road remained closed as of 2 p.m. The road was later reopened and a 911 spokesman said Monday evening he believed the pole had been repaired.

“This was a single-vehicle accident, and we are very lucky nobody was hurt,” said Kemmerer, who did not give his first name.

The driver of the Bronco was going downhill on Leitersburg Smithsburg Road toward Leitersburg Pike (Md. 60) and lost control of the vehicle, Kemmerer said.

“At this point, it appears to be a malfunction in the steering wheel,” Kemmerer said.

Residents in the area did not lose power, Kemmerer said.
