Family festival planned Saturday at church

Paramount Brethren in Christ Church will hold its third annual family fest Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  
The event includes tractor barrel rides, children’s games, inflatable bounce, balloon artist, reptile petting zoo, face painting, food, gifts and door prizes.

The event is free.

The church is at 19106 Longmeadow Road.

Band says ‘thanks’

The North Hagerstown High School Marching Band would like to thank the community for supporting the band during its annual tag day on Sept. 10.

The band invites everyone to come to the school Saturday to watch its show.



TOPS 0446

Thelma was the thinner winner for the week with a loss of two pounds for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446. Mary led the program about excuses and responsibility. The chapter also reviewed its bylaws.

Losses for the week totaled 42 pounds for TOPS Chapter 0077. The best TOPS loser was Trudy H. and the best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers were Cindy R. and Louise K. Judy P. was recognized for being a 10-year KOPS member.  Janice F. presented the program on “My Plate.”

Chorus to have tables at yard sale     

As a fundraiser, the Mason-Dixon Barbershop Chorus will participate in the yard sale to be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the grounds of Western Maryland Hospital Center on Pennsylvania Avenue in Hagerstown.

The barbershop organization has rented three spaces and would appreciate the public stopping by its area where members will be singing favorite barbershop songs.

If anyone would like to support the chorus and donate items for the sale, call Paul Young at 240-310-6296 or Jim Failor at 301-739-3756. Items can also just be dropped off on the day of the sale.

The chorus rehearses each Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Haven Lutheran Church, 1035 Haven Road in Hagerstown.  

The chorus again this year is planning a Christmas program to be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave. in Hagerstown. The local chorus will be joined by visiting choruses and quartets for the event.



Seminar for parents

John Wesley United Methodist Church, at 129 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown, will offer a three-week class titled “Confessions of a Struggling Parent.” The course is designed by the Rev. Adam Hamilton for parents and grandparents who are struggling to raise Christian children in a secular world.

The classes will be held Oct. 16, 23 and 30 at 9 a.m. in the church conference room. The public is invited.
