Donald Lee and Silvia Jane Lohman of Boonsboro were guests of honor Friday, July 29, 2011, at a surprise 50th wedding anniversary celebration.
The celebration was held at Hollow Creek Golf Club in Middletown, Md., and was attended by family and friends. The event was hosted by their daughters and families, Tina Jones and husband Terry; and Tammy Langley and grandson Ryan.
The couple were escorted to the celebration by a limousine, thinking that they were going out to dinner with family and friends. Upon arrival at Hollow Creek Golf Club, they were surprised to find an additional 50 friends and family.
The program also included renewal of their wedding vows by Pastor James Jones with the original wedding party in attendance. The best man gave a champagne toast in their honor, and an Italian dinner buffet followed.
Mr. and Mrs. Lohman were married at the United Brethren Church in Keedysville at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 1961.
Mr. Lohman retired from Eastalco Aluminum in 1999 and then worked part time for Thompson Gas in Boonsboro. He volunteers with the Washington County Fire Police and assists the Boonsboro Ambulance with fundraising events.
Mrs. Lohman worked at Hanover Shoe in Middletown and London Fog in Boonsboro until the plants closed. She is employed part time with Direct Mail Processing in Hagerstown.
The Lohmans enjoy traveling and they are planning a cruise to the Bahamas later this year.
