Anniversary - the Frenches

Phillip and Joyce French of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 11, 2011, at Faith Step Worship Center. The event was hosted by their daughter, Traci Carter, and granddaughters, Holli and Heidi Martin.

The Frenches met in 1960 while training in Glen Eyrie, in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the Navigator Headquarters.

They were married Sept. 9, 1961, in Encampment, Wyo., at the Presbyterian Church of Encampment by the Rev. D.N. Shotwell, now deceased.

Their journey together began in Seattle and Spokane, Wash. They moved to Indianapolis, then to Encampment, and finally to Maryland.

They have three children, Todd, Toni, and Traci, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

They retired from Personal Preference Inc., in 2006, after 20 years of management and sales. Their other interests include nutrition, woodworking and photography.
