Driver taken to hospital after crash near rail crossing on Eastern Blvd.

HAGERSTOWN — One person was taken to the hospital Friday after an accident on Eastern Boulevard at a CSX Railroad crossing just north of Security Road, Deputy Scott Smith of the Washington County Sheriff's Office said.

A Honda SUV collided with the back of another car that was stopped at the railroad tracks due to an approaching train, Smith said.

The driver of the Honda was taken to Meritus Medical Center. Neither of the two passengers were in the car was hurt, Smith said.

Police responded to the accident at 11:10 a.m. Friday and blocked off the northbound side of Eastern Boulevard. It was reopened after the driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital at 11:27 a.m.

A firetruck from the Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Co. and an ambulance from Hagerstown Community Rescue Service were also on the scene.
