September 23, 2011

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Two girls were taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore Friday morning after they were injured in a house fire in Martinsburg, Martinsburg police and fire officials said.

The girls, ages 12 and 13, initially were taken to City Hospital in Martinsburg, the Martinsburg Police Department said in a news release.

The fire in a two-apartment rental property at 311 Boyd Ave. was reported shortly after 1 a.m., a Berkeley County 911 dispatcher said.

Tenants from the apartments were found outside the two-story residence when officers responded, police said.

The fire might have originated in the basement and damage to the house was not extensive, Martinsburg Fire Department Capt. Jerry Gray said.

The cause of the fire was not immediately determined, and chief fire investigator Greg Hoover could not be reached for comment.

Anyone with information on the fire may call the Martinsburg Police Department at 304-264-2100.
