Friday night dinner

Come out tonight and get your Friday night dinner at Second Christian Church, 65 W. North Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m.

Choose fried fish or fried chicken. Both meals are accompanied with homes fries or french fries, soda or water.

The meal costs $5. It is eat in or carry out.

Spaghetti dinner set

The men of Ebenezer AME Church, 40 Bethel St., will hold a all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m., to raise money for its Men’s Day program.

The menu includes spaghetti and meat sauce, garden salad, roll and iced tea.

The meal costs $8. It is eat in, carry out or delivery.

Spiritual renewal

A spiritual renewal weekend will be held Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave. in Hagerstown.

It begins Friday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m.  

Nursery services will be provided. The public is invited.

Achievers kickoff

The Hagerstown YMCA Achievers (formally Black Achievers) will hold its annual program kickoff Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the YMCA multipurpose room.

The goal of the program is to encourage career and educational goals for students in grades 6-12. The event is open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Students can register for the program on Sunday. Registration is also accepted at the YMCA front desk.

The program costs $50 for YMCA members and $75 for nonmembers. The fees allow access to the facility (such as the fitness center and classes) through the school year. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.

Fashion show canceled

The For Our Kids’ Sake coordinators have canceled the fashion show planned this weekend at the Martin Luther King Center. It will be held at a later date.



Recovery service

Asbury UMC. 155 N. Jonathan St., holds a recovery service each Friday from 7 to 8 p.m.  This is a service to help and encourage people who are struggling with life circumstances, not just limited to substance-alcohol abuse.  



Class for parents

John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St., will offer a three-week class titled “Confessions of a Struggling Parent” on Oct. 16, 23 and 30 at 9 a.m.

The course is designed by the Rev. Adam Hamilton for parents and grandparents who are struggling to raise Christian children in a secular world.

The classes will be held in the church conference room.

South High Homecoming

This is  a reminder to all Rebel Alumni that South High's homecoming is Friday, Sept. 30. All classes are invited to tailgate before the game, beginning at 5 p.m. The game begins at 7 p.m. at School Stadium.

 Tailgaters should use the rear entrance (enter from Maryland Avenue) and can set up near the bus circle.
