Letter to the Editor - Sept. 22

Thanks to Pa. congressman for visit to business

To the editor:

We often hear about congressmen who aren’t available to their constituents or use the August recess from Washington to go on vacation. I want to commend U.S. Congressman Bill Shuster for using his summer recess to get out in the district and meet with his constituents. He took the time to listen, hear our concerns, and talk to us about the key legislative and policy issues on the agenda in our nation’s capital.

Shuster recognizes the importance of regular contact with his constituents. “I’m the chief customer service representative to the federal government,” he told us. “So, if you’ve got a problem with the government — that’s what I do for those of you who live in Pennsylvania in the 9th Congressional District. I’m your customer service representative.”

The meeting with Con-way Freight employees was time well spent by everyone. We learned more about Shuster and the challenges he faces in Washington, and he learned more about our business, our employees, our community and what it takes to be a successful business creating good, solid jobs for Pennsylvania.

It was a positive experience that reminded us all that our representatives in Washington are here to help, willing to listen to our concerns and willing to be an advocate for those issues that are important to us in Pennsylvania. On behalf of our employees, thank you, Congressman Shuster, for your time and your interest in Con-way Freight and the trucking business.
