Mary Ann "Pollie" Carney, 82, of Cumberland, Md., died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Fahrney-Keedy Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 8, 1929, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Julia (Manning) Hotchkiss.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Carney; a grandson, Donald Jackson; a son-in-law, Bob Jackson; and her brother, Benjamin F. Hotchkiss Jr.

She was a graduate of the Ursuline Academy and Catherman's Business School.

Mrs. Carney retired from Potomac Edison Co., where she was a customer service representative.

Pollie was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include her four children, Mary Ann Jackson, Kingwood, Tex., Susan Becker and husband, Wayne, Hagerstown, Md., Gene T. Carney and wife, Julie, Dallas, Ga., and John J. Carney and wife, Sara, formerly of Wilmington, N.C., and now in Birmingham, Ala.; seven grandchildren, Tina, Jason, Bobby, Megan, Nathan, Allison and Andrew; and six great- grandchildren, Jaycie, Malia, Tinia, Isabelle, Emma and Addison.

The family invites friends to the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Friday at 6:30 p.m. for the Rosary, followed by visitation from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Bernard Finerty, OFM Cap, celebrant.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association, 108 Byte Drive, Suite 103, Frederick, MD 21702  or to Bishop Walsh School, 700 Bishop Walsh Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
