Martha Amanda Carter, 91, of Clear Spring, Md., went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born March 2, 1920, in Williamsport, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Alice Metz Carpenter.

She was preceded in death by husband Harry L. Sloan of 25 years, and father of her children; husband John McCormick of 10 years; and husband Robert Carter of 10 years.

Harry and Martha Sloan owned and operated Sloan's Salvage Yard.

She was a member of Broadfording Bible Brethren Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Priscilla Carter and husband, Dan, of Ijamsville, Md., Louise Compton and husband, Buddy, of Clear Spring, Md., Betty Marks and husband, Bob, of Hagerstown, and Helen Paul and husband, Ronnie, of Williamsport; one son, Harry L. Sloan Jr. and wife, Carol, of Hancock, Md.; and two brothers, Sam Carpenter and George Carpenter. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy; and two brothers, Earl and Melvin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Broadfording Bible Brethren Church, 13523 Broadfording Church Road, Hagerstown. The Revs. R. William Wyand and William H. Freed will officiate. Burial will be in Broadfording Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p. m., and one hour prior at the church.
