Yard sale planned at Fountain Rock

  • Jamie Cave, lead singer from the band Freak Show, jumped from the stage to personally entertain one of the younger members of his audience at Williamsport's Pirates Plunder event Sunday. Freak Show gave a benefit performance for the event, sponsored by Antietam Cable Television and the Town of Williamsport, to benefit youth going back to school.

Fountain Rock Elementary School PTA has scheduled a community yard sale Saturday at the school, 17145 Lappans Road, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Spaces cost $20 each to rent. Sellers need to provide their own tables.

Solar energy discussion planned

There will be a discussion about solar energy at Williamsport Memorial Library Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m.

The community is invited to join John Christianson from Mountain View Solar to learn about federal and state tax credits, Maryland grants and other issues.

Library accepting donations of books

Williamsport Memorial Library is accepting gently used books for its 2011-12 book sale. Books can be dropped off during normal library hours Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Do not leave textbooks, encyclopedias, computer manuals or magazines.

Kathy Emerson from the book sale committee said that thanks to all the donations, this year's book sale was the most successful one yet, and they really appreciate all the support.

Upcoming Events

  • Harvest Hoedown is Saturday, Oct.1, at Byron Memorial Park, sponsored by the Williamsport Ministerium. The event will include fall activities and games. Proceeds benefit the Williamsport Food Bank.
  • The fourth annual World War II Weekend is scheduled for Oct. 7-9 at Springfield Farm Barn on Springfield Lane in Williamsport. Among the many activities will be movie night at the Port Theater, a 1940s fashion show, USO dance, re-enactments of battle skirmishes and military recognition.
