Mail Call - Sept. 19

September 19, 2011

“I would like to know why the water department charges $5 for bills paid by way of credit card. They never did it in the past, but it seems to be a thing now.”

— Washington County

“I live in Maugansville, and I’m tired of all this noise from these automobiles out on Route 40 and on 81. I think the Washington County government should shut these roads down because there’s too much noise.”

— Maugansville

“Answer to the question, to the person who called in Sept. 7, why Hagerstown businesses don’t hire people in their 40s, 50s and 60s: The older you are, the higher insurance premiums are for the business. Purely the cost of doing business — or you could say, greed on the business owner’s point of view.”

— Fountain Head

“Thank goodness Boonsboro vetoed the chicken ordinance amendment. That way they can preserve the town’s quiet and pristine atmosphere. Oh, wait, I forgot about dogs and cats.”

— St. James

“Just like to know why the American people have gotten so lazy that they can’t even put their carts back into the cart rack that the stores give you, too lazy to put your turn signal on. I don’t know what’s wrong with the American people, but things have to change. We are going downhill fast. For God’s sake — or, should say, maybe, for your sake — change your ways, people, or you will be sorry in the long run.”

— Hancock
