Md. selling prison-grown apples to food bank The Maryland Division of Correction is selling apples grown at at the prisons complex south of Hagerstown to the Maryland Food Bank.

The agency planned to deliver some of the fruit Monday at the orchard near Roxbury Correctional Institution.

A spokesman said inmates are harvesting 2,000 bushels of red delicious and gala apples from about 1,200 trees.

The agency said some of the fruit will be served to inmates at RCI, Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown and Maryland Correctional Training Center.

Some will be sold to the food bank for 20 cents a pound, or about one-tenth the retail market value.
