CUMBERLAND, Md. — Saint James was hit with an opening kickoff return for a touchdown by Bishop Walsh and the Saints went on to lose to the Spartans 50-23 on Saturday afternoon.

Three interceptions led to scores by the Spartans in a 22-point second quarter. The Saints trailed 28-0 before getting on the scoreboard when Bobby Brennan threw a 20-yard pass to Kevin Manesh.

The Saints (1-2), who trailed 28-7 at halftime, scored in the third quarter on a 6-yard pass from Brennan to Nnamdi Enechionyia and in the final quarter on a 4-yard run by Sherman Davis.

Saint James had 281 total yards with 231 coming in the air as Brennan completed 16 of 32 passes but had four interceptions. Manesh had four receptions for 97 yards.

Landon 23, Mercersburg 13

BETHESDA, Md. — Marcus Allen ran for 60 yards and a touchdown and Nelson Santos had a 29-yard touchdown pass to Lorenzo Vazquez in Mercersburg Academy’s season-opening loss to Landon School.


Saint James 3, St. Maria Goretti 2

SAINT JAMES — Leanne Ludwick scored in overtime to lift the Saints past the Gaels.

Mary-Kate Afzali scored twice in regulation for Saint James (2-0). Nikki Jenkinson made 15 saves.

Alexis Barone and Annie Cochrane scored for Goretti (0-5).

Mercersburg 4, Hedgesville 0

MERCERSBURG, Pa. — Mackenzie Quinn and Nikki Rhyne each scored two goals to lead Mercersburg Academy past Hedgesville.

Payton Lissette added an assist for the Blue Storm (1-1), while goalie Teal Tasker made four saves for the shutout.

Kaite Allen had 11 saves for Hedgesville (0-4).

JV: Hedgesville, 2-1.


Calvary 4, Grace 1

CRESAPTOWN, Md. — Jeremiah House scored the lone goal on an assist by Ashton Binkley for Grace Academy in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference loss to Calvary Christian on Friday.

Daniel Frederickson had 20 saves for the Knights (0-5).

St. Maria Goretti 3, Musselman 1

Jake Kline, Rodrigo Reyna and Matteo Pelja each scored for Goretti. Thomas Blake had an assist and John Winalski and Drew Katrina combined for seven saves.

Jordan Butts scored for Musselman.

JV: Goretti, 2-1.

Southern Fulton 6, Johnstown Christian 2

HOLLSOPPLE, Pa. — Matt Garland scored three goals to lead Southern Fulton to its first win of the season Friday.

Taylor Bohrer had a goal and an assist for the Indians (1-2), while Chase Horton and Josh Hill each had a goal, Biar Kirk and Morgan Strait each had an assist and keeper Courtney Strait had nine saves in the win.

Landon 4, Mercersburg 0

BETHESDA, Md. — Mercersburg Academy fell to 1-2-1 with the loss to Landon School on Saturday.

JV: Landon, 4-0.


Berkeley Springs 3, Preston 0

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — The Indians swept Preston, 25-10, 25-14, 25-18.

Toni Davidson had 13 service points for Berkeley Springs, while Erin Close had 11 servuce points, Casey Solomon had 10 service points and five digs and Allexa Branham had 10 service points for the Indians.

JV: Berkeley Springs, 2-0.

ARLINGTON, Va. — Margaret Bacon had two goals and an assist to lead the Saints to victory.

Lena Tilsworth also scored two goals for Saint James (2-0), and Kate Zeber added a goal.

CANTON, Ohio — Freshman Kelsey Smith, a North Hagerstown graduate, scored on a header off a corner kick by Ashley Bryant in the 74th minute to lift Shepherd over Malone (0-4).

Morgan Gabriel also scored for the Rams (2-4), tying the match at 1-1 in the 52nd minute.
