Village golfers didn’t mind a little rain

To the editor:

Neither rain, nor rain, nor rain . . . could stop the 17th annual Children’s Village “Keep Our Kids Safe” Golf Classic. Teams of golfers, committed to supporting child safety in Washington County, braved raindrops and a soggy course. (Unfortunately, however, lightning and thunder did end the tournament early.)

Children’s Village thanks all golfers, hole, cart, and prize sponsors, and volunteers for making this year’s tournament a success, despite the weather and early ending. Participants and sponsors represented fire and police unions, fire and police organizations, along with many business partners. For more than 20 years, the success of Children’s Village, and its nationally recognized child safety education program, has been possible because of community support such as this.

Children’s Village also thanks the management at Black Rock Golf Course for ensuring golfers participating in this tournament could look forward to a sunny day of golf sometime after the storm.

This year’s very wet “Keep Our Kids Safe” Golf Classic will be one for the record books. Fortunately, support and commitment for Children’s Village and its program are not weather related. When children across the board in Washington County are safer because of a caring community, we all win, even when the rain falls. Thank you.

Motorcycle club a big help to food bank

To the editor:

On behalf of the Williamsport Food Bank, I would like to thank the Leatherneck Motorcycle Club for its continued support.

The Leathernecks are a group of Marines who have not only given of themselves for the freedoms that you and I enjoy, but also give of themselves to help those in need in our community. They have donated hundreds of pounds of food twice this year from food drives they sponsored, and the latest act of generosity was a motorcycle poker run with all proceeds benefiting the Williamsport Food Bank. This very generous donation will help us to feed many families in our community.

Thank you for your continuing support of the Williamsport Food Bank and for your service to our country. The Leathernecks are shining examples of true heros.
