Fashion show to benefit For Our Kids Sake effort

The For Our Kids Sake coordinators are planning a fashion show Sunday, Sept. 25, starting at 3 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Center, 131 W. North St. in Hagerstown. Youths, especially high school and college students, are needed as models.

Refreshments will be served.  

Tickets are on sale. Tickets cost $6 for adults and $3 for children.

Dinner today

Second Christian Church, at 65 W. North Ave. in Hagerstown, will hold a dinner today from 4 to 7 p.m. The menu includes fried fish or fried chicken with french fries and soda or water.

The meal costs $5.

Movie night

The movie "Rio" will be shown Saturday at 7 p.m. at Bridge of Life Church, 14 S. Potomac St. in Hagerstown.  

The movie is free and so is the popcorn and drinks.

Book fair to benefit CAC

A book fair at Books-A-Million at Valley Mall Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. will benefit Washington County Community Action Council Inc.  

A portion of sales will go to CAC.

CAC staff will be on site to answer questions about the agency.

Deacon's Day

Second Christian Church, (Disciples of Christ ) 65 W. North Ave., will celebrate its annual Deacon's Day program Sunday at 3:30 p.m.  Elder Leonard Cardwell, from Great Commission Deliverance Church in Waynesboro, Pa., will be the guest preacher.   

Field trip planned

The YMCA Achievers' (formally Black Achievers) first event of the season is a field trip, planned for Sunday, Oct. 9, to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C., at 1:30 p.m.

Book club schedule

The Sisters In Spirit Book Club meeting scheduled Sunday has been canceled.

The next meeting will be Oct. 16 with the review for the book "The Skin I'm In," by Jenelle. The book "Journey through Darkness," by Angela (Lucas) Jennings will be discussed in November.

Yard sale

Haven Lutheran Church, at 1035 Haven Road in Hagerstown, will sponsor its third annual community yard and bake sale Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit Holly Place and Micah's Backpacks (a food supplement program for children in need).

Spaces cost $20 to rent, which will be donated to Holly Place and Micah's Backpacks. What you sell, you keep.   

There will also be a bake sale and chicken barbecue, prepared by the North Hagerstown Lions Club.
