On Sept. 11, in remembrance of the tragic events which occurred 10 years ago, Woodmen of the World Lodge No. 1 donated a 30-foot flag pole to the Smithsburg Community Volunteer Co. during a 9/11 dedication ceremony.

The donation included an American flag and plaque which will be displayed in front of the fire hall on North Main Street in Smithsburg.

Some of the community attendees included Smithsburg Mayor Mildred “Mickey” Myers; County Commissioners Ruth Anne Callaham and William McKinley; Woodmen of the World State Manager Anthony Jurik; Woodmen of the World Lodge No. 1 President Buck Fisher; Woodmen field representatives Charles Anthony, Glenn Young Jr. and Elisabeth Brodell; fire company Chaplain Julie Brigham; and numerous members of the fire company.

Installation construction of the flag pole was completed by Gouff Masonry and Construction Co.

The ceremony was followed by a meal provided by the Ladies Auxiliary at the fire company.
