HAGERSTOWN — One person was taken to Meritus Medical Center after an accident Wednesday at the intersection of South Potomac Street and West Baltimore Street, Officer Michelle Deavers of the Hagerstown Police Department said.

A Ford F-150 pickup truck collided with the back of a Kia Optima at a red light on South Potomac Street north of the intersection, Deavers said.

The driver of the Kia was taken to Meritus Medical Center, Deavers said.

The left lane of South Potomac Street was closed briefly between Antietam Street and West Baltimore Street, but it reopened after police cleared the scene around 12:55 p.m.

Police responded to the accident around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday.

In addition to the Hagerstown Police Department, a firetruck from Antietam Fire Co. and an ambulance from Hagerstown Community Rescue Service were also on the scene.

An accident involving a beer truck was initially reported at that area, but Deavers said it was on West Baltimore Street about a block east of the intersection with South Potomac Street. A supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services said that accident scene was cleared by 12:45 p.m. Wednesday. Police responded to that accident at 12:27 p.m. Wednesday.
