Edward Gordon Davis Sr., 78, of 18132 Maugans Ave., Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Sunday, Dec. 4, 1932, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles Russell Davis and the late Aletta Pearl (Corwell) Davis.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army, and was a POW.

Following the war, he attended and graduated from the University of Maryland with an engineering degree.

He was employed as the powerhouse engineer at Mack Trucks Inc., retiring in 2004 after 43 years of service.

He was a member of Salem Reformed Church, VFW Post 1936, Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, AMVETS Post 10, 25th Infantry Division Association and UAW Local 171. Ed was also very involved in the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as Scout leader for Pack 64 of Maugansville and Troop 164.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna L. Davis; daughters, Deborah J. Davis of Hagerstown and Aletta L. Jones and husband, Harry Sr., of Williamsport, Md.; sons, Kirk E. Davis Sr. of Hagerstown, Tony V. Davis and wife, MinaMarie, of Allegany, N.Y., and Edward G. Davis Jr. and wife, Traci, of Greencastle, Pa.; sisters, June Myers of Greencastle and Mickey Mundey of Williamsport; grandchildren, Jared, Nikki, Erik, Travis, Patrick, Taylor, Stephanie, Jaimee, Harry Jr., Kryste and Joshua; and great-grandchildren, Kristyn, Morgan, Halie and Jocelyn Paige.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Molly; and brothers, Robert, Charles and Richard.

Services will be Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with Pastor Stephen Wagoner officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Interment will be at Salem Reformed Church Cemetery, Hagerstown.
