HAGERSTOWN — The Sheetz gas station and covenience store at the intersection of East Washington Street and Cannon Avenue in Hagerstown is still closed for renovations.

However, the store could reopen by Sept. 30, job superintendent Dennis Cowder said Tuesday.

"We're hoping to get the health inspection and the ceiling inspection sometime next week," he said. "We are getting our equipment fired up."

Cowder said that the heart of the inside of the store is almost finished, and the walls, ceilings, and floors need to be completed.

The store is expected to open when the fuel pumps are put in place. Cowder said he expects that to happen at the end of the month.

"We also have to finish the concrete and siding on the exterior and revamp the exterior sidewalks," he said.

The Sheetz store has been closed since  July 18.

The project cost around $1 million, according to a published report in August.
