Suspicious package at CSX site turned out to be inventory manifest

September 13, 2011

CHAMBESRBURG, Pa. — A suspicious package found on CSX railroad property Tuesday morning turned out to be an inventory manifest, Pennsylvania State Police said in a news release.

Police were called to the CSX railroad yard at 700 Kriner Road in Guilford Township at 6:45 a.m. about the package, which was taped to the underside of a US Express trailer on a train, police said.

Country and Kriner roads were immediately closed "to ensure the safety of the citizens and property," the release said.

A Franklin County Emergency Services dispatcher said trailer-trailer traffic was being diverted from the property to a staging area.

The State Police Hazardous Device and Explosives Section was notified. Upon its arrival, it was determined that the package was an inventory manifest placed on the trailer by US Express, police said.

At 9:15 a.m., the dispatcher said fire and rescue units had been given permission to leave the scene.
