Williamsport hosts Pirate's Plunder on Sunday

Pirates take over Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. in Williamsport Town Center.

Whether you dress in pirate costume or come as you are, Williamsport Pirate’s Plunder has something for everyone, including a sandy beach for little ones and treasure hunts for families and older youth.

Games such as Walk the Plank and Hoist the Mainsail are planned, along with bingo, entertainment, food, vendors, T-shirts and contests.

The event is sponsored by Antietam Cable Television and the town of Williamsport to benefit youth going back to school and the town’s revitalization efforts.


Yard sale planned Saturday

Van Lear Brethren in Christ Church, 10745 Van Lear Drive, will hold a yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A lunch stand will be provided.

Potomac Garden Club to meet Tuesday, Sept. 20

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, members of the Potomac Garden Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Post office to hold direct mail seminar

The Williamsport Post Office, 28 W. Salisbury St., will hold a seminar Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 11 a.m., for local businesses to learn about Every Door Direct Mail. The service allows local businesses to market every address in their neighborhood without purchasing mailing lists.

WHS boys soccer team to host alumni match

The Williamsport High School boyssoccer team will host its second annual alumni match Saturday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.

Proceeds will benefit the Washington County CARES organization, which provides respite care for caregivers of patients with Alzheimer’s disease who normally would not be able to afford it.

The participation fee costs $25, which covers a shirt and a donation. If you are an alumnus interested in playing, or in making a donation if you can’t attend, contact Chris Downs at 301-730-8597.

Yard/bake sale will benefit youths

The second annual yard/bake sale to benefit PRAY (Providing Relief for Autistic Youth Inc.) is planned Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at 20301 Barbara Drive in Hagerstown.

Donations of baked goods or yard sale items are needed. Volunteers are also needed, along with some portable canopies. The cost for a table to sell items is $20 or a percentage of sales.
