Gospel concert planned at Mt. Zion Church

The community is invited to attend a concert given by Richard and Mary Fox and Higher Ground Bluegrass Gospel on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Church, 14336 Greencastle Pike.

Refreshments will be served and a goodwill offering will be collected for the group during a short intermission. A basket will be placed in the front of the church for the cemetery maintenance fund.  



TOPS 0046

One of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0046’s newest members, Karen, was the week’s thinner winner with a loss of 8.8 pounds. Thelma was runner-up, having lost 4.6 pounds.

Carole presented information on resistant starch. On Wednesday, the chapter will meet for a picnic at Pangborn Park.

Meetings are Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road, Hagerstown. Weigh in is from 8:45 to 9:20 a.m.

TOPS 0077

Losses for the week were 30 3/4 pounds for TOPS Chapter 0077.  Charles House was the biggest loser with seven pounds, while Julia Shoff lost four pounds. Jean Betker, Louise Cline and Deloris Hays were the best KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) losers.

Darla Hartley won the ha-ha prize. The no-no snack for the week is soda.

Sharon Twigg presented the program on “Exercise, Metabolism and Weight Loss.”

She said exercise is an excellent way to boost your metabolism. She said 30 minutes of walking each day can result in a weight loss of 20 pounds in one year with no other change in behavior.

Volunteers will play bingo with the residents at Golden Living on Tuesday. An in-house yard sale will be held before the meeting on Sept. 19. A bus will be available for anyone needing transportation to the fall rally. Reservation are required.  

The Christmas cards for the troops collection will begin Oct. 1.

The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.

Lions Club food stand

The Longmeadow Lions Club will work in conjunction with the Chewsville Lions Club to provide a food stand at Volvo Powertrain’s Power Day and Open House Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The event is open to the public.  

There will be activities for children, open house tours and displays.

There will be free parking and no admission charge.



Cash bingo canceled

The Kiwanis Club’s cash bingo event scheduled for Saturday at the Knights of Columbus has been canceled.
