National AMVETS official to speak at Post 10

The second annual Birthday Ball will be hosted locally by the Marine Corps League on Saturday, Nov. 5, at AMVETS Post 10 on Frederick Street in Hagerstown.

The guest speaker will be Maj. Stewart Hickey USMC (Ret.), a 22-year veteran who recently became the national executive director of AMVETS in Washington, D.C.

Activities will include a banquet, cake cutting and awards presentation.

Music will be provided by The Holders.  

Tickets cost $16 per person or $30 per couple.

Tickets will be available from any Marine Corps League member or at the AMVETS post home on Frederick Street.

Hagerstown Lions Club

Tuesday — Michele A. Wills, marketing director at Valley Mall, will talk about the mall’s history, operations and upcoming  events.

Emma K. Doub Elementary

Wednesday — Countywide information night about the magnet program at Washington County Technical High School, 6 to 7 p.m.

Thursday — PTA family night at McDonald’s on Sharpsburg Pike, 5 to 7 p.m.

Mansion House Art Center

The Mansion House Arts Center will participate in the annual fall park festival in Hagerstown’s City Park Saturday and Sunday.

There will be arts and crafts on the porch both days.

On Sunday, the Mansion House will host children’s painting and sculpting in clay on the porch.

The Mansion House is open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Mansion House is at 18501 Highland Way, to the rear of City Park.

Spiritual renewal weekend

Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 802 Summit Ave., invites the community to a spiritual renewal weekend, Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, beginning Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m.

There will be activities for all ages.

Nursery service will be provided for those in attendance.
