Fire causes $50K in damages to Williamsport apartment/office building

WILLIAMSPORT — An electrical failure caused about $50,000 in damages to a three-story apartment/office building Sunday at 5 N. Conococheague St. in Williamsport, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said.

The fire started at about 11:20 a.m. in exhaust fans above the bathroom in the first floor of Jewells & Jewells Used Appliances, according to a fire marshal’s office news release. Damages were estimated at $45,000 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents,

The fire marshal’s office said it took 47 firefighters about 35 minutes to control the blaze.

The Red Cross was called to assist the occupants of the apartments, the release said.

Fire companies from Williamsport, Halfway, Funkstown, Fairplay and Clear Spring responded.
