Andy Rooney for president

To the editor:

I am not in particular an avid reader of books. However, my wife handed me a copy of Andy Rooney’s book, “Out of My Mind,” published in 2006. I would suggest for you avid readers to read this very down-to-earth and common-sense piece of literature.

In his book, Rooney tackles just about everything that is wrong with our country and the world. For example, on page 102, he writes about the world’s population. The annual birth rate in the United States is 14 per 1,000. France, Belgium, Norway and Great Britain have birth rates of 12 per 1,000. Scotland is 11 per 1,000 and Russia is 9 per 1,000.

In Africa, the rates are much higher. In Nigeria, a country of 130 million, the rate is 40 per 1,000. In Zambia, the rate is 41 per 1,000, and in Ghana, the rate is 24 per 1,000.

The solution to this problem is not to feed them, as much of the world attempts to do, but to teach them birth control. I believe many problems we incur in these modern times result from our lack of good old common sense.

“Andy Rooney for President.”
