David Merle Secor, 91, retired U.S. Army chief warrant officer 4, of Hagerstown, Md., departed to rejoin his loving wife, Emma Jane Secor, on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011.  

Born June 29, 1920, in Berring County, Mich., he was the son of the late Samuel and Treva Tucker Secor of Warsaw, Ind.

In his early years, David worked for a telephone company in the Warsaw area. On Sept. 11, 1940, he joined the U.S. Army. He retired after 26 years of service, having served in World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was part of the 97th Signal Battalion and the 78th Gun Battalion. Also while serving, he worked at the White House under Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson. He loved to share his many stories from his years of service. After his military career, he worked for and retired from Jamison Door Co. in Hagerstown.

He was a life member of South Mountain Rod & Gun Club of Smithsburg, where he served more than 20 years as club secretary; and a life member of VFW Post 695 of Waynesboro, Pa., Cascade American Legion of Cascade, Md., AMVETS Post 7 of Thurmont, Md., and Blue Ridge Sportsmen of Fairfield, Pa. He also was a member of Retired Officers Association, Military Officers Association of America, Moose Lodge 1191 of Waynesboro, and VFW Post 6658 of Emmitsburg, Md.

David is survived by and will be missed by his loving granddaughter and caregiver, Carrie Wiles of Monrovia, Md. Also surviving is his sister, Doris Cox of Noblesville, Ind.; daughter, Janet Wiles of Frederick; grandsons, David, Brian and Scott Wiles of Frederick County, and Dan Wiles of Reston, Va. He will be deeply missed by Great-Grandpa's Angels, Nicole Wiles, Samantha Bryant, Jessica Zimmerman and Jennifer Wiles; great-granddaughters, Ashley Biser, Allison Wiles and Dallas Wiles; and great-grandsons, Blake Wiles and Garrett Wiles. He enjoyed his many visits by his great-great-grandchildren, Jordan, Allie, Tyler and Tucker. He also will be remembered by special friends, Jackie and Charlie Minnick

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jane Secor; five brothers; and five sisters.

Special thanks to his longtime physician, Dr. Garrett Blanchet of Mont Alto, Pa., Dr. John Robinson of Waynesboro, Pa., and to the Somerford assisted living facility in Hagerstown for their outstanding care and support for the past two months.

Memorial contributions may be made to a veterans' charity of one's choice.

There will be no service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Arlington National Cemetery.
