Betty L. Shives, 78, of Ashton Road in Clear Spring, Md., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Tuesday, April 4, 1933, in Clear Spring, she was the daughter of the late Ralph E. Weaver and the late Ruth Ellen (Bowers) Weaver.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene D. Shives, in 2002.

She was a Washington County school bus driver for Thompson’s in Clear Spring, retiring in 1988 after 18 years.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and St. John’s United Church of Christ, both of Clear Spring, and the Clear Spring District Historical Association.

Betty was a loving wife and mother. She was especially a great cook, and loved her home and neighborhood.

She is survived by her daughters, Vickie L. Wiles and Sue Ellen Shives, both of Clear Spring; sister, Helen Bair of Clear Spring; grandson, Chad Wiles and life companion, Allison, of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; sister-in-law, Leona Weaver of Clear Spring; nieces, Ruth Wolford, Mary L. Brechbill, Jane Kriner and Cathy Bair; and nephews, Lloyd “Son” Weaver, Lynn Weaver and Greg Weaver.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Dick; brothers, Lloyd Weaver, Ray “Nick” Weaver and Ralph Weaver Jr.; infant brother, Clide Weaver; and nephew, Gary Blair.

Services will be Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with Pastor Jim Davies officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Clear Spring.

The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
