Joanne Virginia Field, 73, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011 at Berkeley Springs Rehabilitation and Nursing.

Born March 31, 1938, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late George Edward and Hazel Virginia Daniels Payne.

She was of the Protestant faith.

She was a graduate of Annandale High School in Annandale, Va.

Joanne was formerly a secretary for the U.S. Navy Department, and retired in 1996 as executive secretary for the director of EMPO at Veterans Affairs.

She loved interior decorating, as well as gardening and landscaping.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Larry J. Field; three daughters, Lora Plaza of Billings, Mont., Kim Hockensmith of Henderson, Nev., and Cathi Jo Livingston of Winchester, Va.; one son, George Livingston of Winchester; two sisters, Mary Lawson of Woodbridge, Va., and Deborah Baldwin of Stafford, Va.; two brothers, Robert Payne of Arlington, Va., and George Payne Jr. of Ocean Pines, Md.; six grandchildren; and 15 great- grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union St., Berkeley Springs, with hospice Chaplain John Waidande officiating. Burial will be private.  

The family will receive friends Friday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403; Alzheimer’s Association, 5 Public Square, Suite 307, Hagerstown, MD 21740; or Berkeley Springs Rehabilitation & Nursing, 456 Autumn Acres Road, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.

Arrangements are being handled by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Berkeley Springs.
