Woman thankful for gift of blood donation

To the editor:

I am a very average, healthy Hagerstown woman. This week, I faced a sudden situation where I needed four bags of blood. I will be forever grateful that the blood was available when I needed it.

While I have given blood in the past, I must admit that I never really thought about who might receive it. I would bet that the four people who donated the blood I received could not have known what a difference their gift would make. I have said prayers of gratitude several times already for those amazing people who gave their blood to me. I don’t know where I would be today if the blood bank had been empty when my situation developed.

I am incredibly blessed to live in a community such as this. If I ever read again about low blood supplies in Washington County, I will know what that could mean — in a very personal way. My hope is that the generous nature of the people who live here continues and we never lose the ability to support each other with the gift of life. I know I will be a regular donor as soon as I am able to give blood again.

To those of you who have already given blood — thank you, thank you, thank you. I am alive and feeling good today thanks to your gift.
