  • The Hagerstown Freedom '99 U12 girls soccer team went 4-0 to win the OBGC Capital Cup, played in Catonsville, Md., and Ellicott City, Md., over the weekend. The Freedom defeated the MSI Comets 3-0 in the championship game after beating the OBGC Galaxy 3-0, SAC United 1-0 and the CASA Royals 4-0. Lexi Robinson, Kenzie Sarber and Ali Rhinaman each scored two goals for the Freedom, while Taylor Neff, Lauren Aidoo, Catherine Kinman, Taylor Morgan and Hannah Statler each scored one. Keeper Madison Foltz had 14 saves while not allowing a goal. PREP VOLLEYBALL

Goretti 3, Hancock 0

HANCOCK — Ellie Burke had eight aces and six kills for St. Maria Goretti in a 25-17, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22 win over Hancock on Tuesday.

Jean Hogan had 15 assists, Mary Hackney had 20 digs and Jessica Swarner had six blocks for Goretti (2-1).

Lyndsay Himes had 10 kills and eight aces for Hancock (0-1), while Alisha Shives had 11 assists, Tiffany Younker had seven assists, Jessica Martin had five digs and Emily Harvey had four digs.

Heritage 3, New Life 0

Kara Stamper had 10 kills and three blocks for Heritage Academy in a 25-8, 25-13, 25-14 defeat of New Life.

Callie Butts had 13 assists, three aces and two digs for Heritage, while Rachel Clarke had five kills and five blocks, Jessica Gaylor had six digs and four aces, Kathleen Kidd tallied five digs and Stephanie O’Brien had four digs.

Greencastle 3, James Buchanan 0

GREENCASTLE, Pa. — Nakita Gearhart had nine kills, six aces, five digs and two blocks for Greencastle in a 25-13, 25-12, 25-12 victory over James Buchanan.

Tiffany Briggs had 15 assists, three aces and three digs for Greencastle, while Amanda Hammer had six kills, Alex Baughman had seven digs and Morgynn McKenzie had three aces, two kills and two digs.

Mount Union 3, Southern Fulton 0

WARFORDSBURG, Pa. — Southern Fulton fell in its season opener, 25-9, 25-13, 25-14.

Abby Hawkins had seven assists, Whitney Ritz had four kills, Melanie Dineen eight digs and Kylie Covalt had six digs for Southern Fulton.

OAKTON, Va. — Sebastian Abrigo scored twice to lead Flint Hill over Saint James.

Rishell earns conference honor

American University freshman Sara Rishell, a 2011 Smithsburg graduate, was named the Patriot League Molton Rookie of the Week.

Rishell led American to a 2-2 week, averaging 3.67 kills per set, 1.33 digs per set and 1.00 blocks per set while hitting .293. She also was named to the Cornell Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Rishell has notched double-digit kills in every match this season for the Eagles (3-3).
