Charles R. Miller III

Mr. Charles R. "Buck" Miller III, of 749 Ryan Lane, Greencastle, Pa., died Monday morning, Sept. 5, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md. He had been in failing health for the past two years and critically ill for the past week.

Born June 25, 1949, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of Catherine (Goshorn) Miller of Waynesboro and the late Charles R. Miller Jr.  

Buck graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1968. He was later drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant.  

He and his wife of over 35 years, Carol Ann (Rubeck) Miller, were married on June 5, 1976, in Boonsboro, Md. They have lived at their present residence for the past 29 years.  

Buck was a jeweler for Smith Jeweler in Waynesboro for many years, and later at Reed's Jewelry at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown. He retired on disability in 2009.  

He was a member of the Eagles Club Inc., Waynesboro, and was active in his cancer support group. He also enjoyed hiking and being around people.  

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Charles R. Miller IV and his wife, Bethany, of Greencastle, and Christopher R. Miller and his wife, Melissa, of Greencastle; one grandson, Emerick C. Miller; two sisters, Sue Taylor of Waynesboro and Charla Hollenshead of Marion, Pa.; and a number of nieces and nephews.  

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an educational trust fund for his 1-year-old grandson, Emerick C. Miller, c/o Susquehanna Bank, 10 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
